The elderly contribute greatly to the well-being of their families and society, and it is society's responsibility to care for them. To honor the elderly’s contributions to our society, it is hoped that society can pitch in to help the elderly enjoy their golden years in peace and comfort.
Mr. Li is a keen supporter of services for the elderly, and has helped finance five homes for the elderly in Hong Kong. The aim is to provide the elderly with the comprehensive facilities and the professional services that they need to enjoy a healthy and productive life, and to help them stay in touch with their families and the community.
Mr. Li cares deeply about their quality of life, and donates mooncakes and gifts to the elderly during the Mid-Festival Festival, Lunar New Year, and other festivals. The five homes Mr. Li has helped finance include the following:
Buddhist Li Ka Shing Care and Attention Home
for the Elderly, 133 Tai Hang Road, Hong Kong
This
home was completed in April 1990 and covers an area of 15,000
sq. ft. It is ten stories high and accommodates 250 people. In
addition to the usual facilities, the home includes a Buddhist
worship hall, which can also be used to accommodate more than
200 people for lectures and other activities. In November 2000,
a garden was added for the elderly residents.
Caritas Li Ka Shing Care and Attention Home for the Elderly, 16
Wah Fat Street, Tun Muen, NT
This home covers an area of 3,928 sq. m., is four stories high,
and accommodates 250 people. It is the first elderly home in Hong
Kong that has a heated therapeutic pool and an air-conditioned
hall.
Buddhist Po Ching Home for Aged Women, 10 Chi Fuk Circuit, Fanling,
NT
The original home was founded in 1966. In 1992, Mr. Li made a
donation in memory of his late beloved wife madam Li Chong Yuet-ming
to redevelop the home. Construction began in 1995 and was completed
in 1999. The Home is separated into east and west wings, covering
an area of 6,340 sq. m. It is designed to accommodate 260 females,
100 elderly persons, and 150 persons in need of care and attention,
more than doubling the capacity of the original home.
Sheng Kung Hui Li Ka Shing Care and Attention Home for the Elderly,
338 Nam Cheong Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon
This home commenced operation in April 1996. Covering an area
of 3,800 sq. m., this four-story home can accommodate 260 people,
with space for elderly couples. The home boasts a day care center
for up to 44 elderly people. This is designed for elderly persons
who live with their families in the district but who require care
and attention during the day.
Buddhist Li Chong Yuet-Ming
Nursing Home, 5 Po Ping Road, Sheung Shui, NT
Completed in November 1998, this nursing home has 200 subsidized
places and five non-profit-making places. This is the first home
in Hong Kong that combines nursing care and elderly services,
taking care of weak and chronically ill elderly. Hospice services
are provided for elderly who are suffering from a terminal illness.
Simple but dignified funeral services are also available.
