Date: September 2000 – 2005
Project Description:
Co-organized by the Li Ka Shing Foundation and the Health InfoWorld of the Hospital Authority, Better Health for a Better Hong Kong is a territory-wide outreach health promotion program that was launched in September 2000. The program is set to run for five years, and 40,000 people from all walks of life are expected to receive free basic health tests and attend health promotion programs, allowing them to understand the importance of early detection and prevention. As prevention is always better than a cure, a host of educational activities and exhibitions will be held to increase people's awareness of Hong Kong's six major diseases and how to prevent them by living a healthy lifestyle. More than 500,000 people are expected to benefit.
Project significance:

Promote the importance of early detection and prevention by providing free tests and health education at the grassroots level.

Increase awareness of healthy living through outreach programs and exhibitions. Raise productivity and promote prosperity through reduction of illness and fatality rates.

Gather relevant statistics and provide them to the government and the Hospital Authority to support their health care policy planning.
