Yangtze Flood |

In August 1998, the Yangtze River overflowed and many cities were affected in the worst flooding in several decades. As water levels continued to rise, the Foundation and the Group made a donation of HK$50 million (US$6.41 million) to help relief efforts. |

Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia SnowStorms |
| |
In February 2001, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia were hit by a severe snow storm, affecting millions of people in the region and killing livestock. 700 primary and secondary schools were damaged, leaving over 200,000 students unable to return to school. Through the Group, Mr. Li made a donation of HK$10 million to help repair the damaged schools so that the students can return to school as soon as possible. |

Flood in Western provinces |
| |
Torrential rain caused severe damage in 12 mainland provinces in June 2002. Many people lost their homes in the ensuing floods and needed urgent relief. The Group contributed HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) to aid the emergency relief efforts. As Chongqing was particularly hard hit, the Ministry of Civil Affairs used the entire sum to help 3,490 Chongqing residents to rebuild their homes. |

The Fight against SARS |

In the spring of 2003, an outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) swept through Hong Kong. Medical professionals put their own lives on the line to battle this new and highly virulent disease. Mr. Li demonstrated his deep concern by making a number of donations to help support the fight against SARS. |

Mr. Li was deeply moved by the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our medical professionals. Mr. Li donated one million oranges to 50,000 hospital workers to help boost their immunity and to let them know that the community is behind them all the way. |

Due to the strict visitation restrictions placed on SARS victims, patients often felt alone in their fight against the disease. The Li Ka Shing Foundation, Hutchison Global Communications and Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited jointly provided a free "Video Visit Service" for SARS patients at Princess Margaret Hospital and Wong Tai Sin Hospital, which allowed patients to stay in touch with their friends and family. |

Huai River Valley Flood and Earthquake in Yunnan |

In July 2003, a major flood in the Huai River Valley caused extensive damage in Anhui province. At the same time, Yunnan was hit by a serious earthquake. Mr. Li contacted the Ministry of Civil Affairs and a decision was made to donate 2,100 tonnes of "Pik Heung To" brand of rice worth over HK$12 million (US$1.54 million) to aid relief efforts. |
