| Since its establishment in 1980, the Foundation has used a “Just in Time Fund” to offer timely and direct relief in natural catastrophes, special and emergency situations, and work-related injuries and deaths of civil servants, to encourage further support from private and public sectors. Over the past 20 years, the JIT Fund has provided a total donation of HK$300 million (US$38.4 million) in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and overseas. |

Flood in Eastern China |
| |
In July 1991, 18 provinces in the eastern region of China suffered serious flooding. When the Chinese Government called on the international community to offer relief, Mr. Li responded immediately with a donation HK$50 million (US$6.41 million) from the Foundation and the Cheung Kong Group to draw a similar response from other benefactors. The people of Hong Kong made generous donations to bring relief to the region. |

Explosion in Shenzhen |

In August 1993, an explosion at a warehouse in Shenzhen caused dozens of deaths and injuries. Mr. Li procured a donation of HK$5 million (US$641,000) from Hutchison Whampoa to offer relief to the victims and their families. |

South China Flood |
| |
In June 1994, six provinces were hit by a severe storm and suffered extensive flooding. Many people were injured or killed, and damage to the economy was estimated at $2.3 billion. A donation of HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) was made by the Cheung Kong Group to aid disaster relief. |

Yunnan Earthquake |

A major earthquake struck the Yunnan province in February 1996, during a particularly harsh winter. A donation of HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) from the Foundation and the Group was made in the hopes of raising people's awareness and encouraging others to make a contribution to help the earthquake victims. |

Hebei Earthquake |

In August 1998, the Yangtze River overflowed and many cities were affected in the worst flooding in several decades. As water levels continued to rise, Mr. Li made a donation of HK$5 million (US$641,000) through Hutchison Whampoa to help relief efforts. |
