Apply for Funding

Application Process

The Li Ka Shing Foundation is eager to support projects that contribute to positive and sustainable change in society. In order to effectively to identify worthy proposals, we ask grant seekers to follow the Foundation’s grant application process in submitting their requests. As we receive a large number of proposals, please allow sufficient time for consideration before making further inquiry. The steps for project requests are as follows:

1. Letter of Inquiry

Grant seekers should submit a brief letter (no more than two pages long) containing a brief description of your organization and its goals and objectives, the amount requested, and an explanation of the intended use and allocation of the funds, if approved. You may also include other supporting information that may be helpful in our review. The letter and any other materials should be sent to:

2. Detailed Organization and Project Overviews:

If the Foundation is interested in your project, we will request a more detailed proposal that should provide the following information, where applicable:

    • Organization Overview:
      • Most recent annual report
      • Most recent audited accounts
      • Memorandum and Articles of Association
      • Registration certificate showing non-profit status
      • Expertise/experience in proposed project area
      • Previous projects and current progress
      • Biography/CV of principal scholars/investigators involved in the project(s)
      • Background information about any collaborating institutions on the project
    • Project Overview:
      • Project name
      • Purpose
      • Timeline, including start and finish dates
      • Objectives and significance
      • Amount requested and cost breakdown
      • Cost justification
      • Geographic profile
      • Demographic profile
    • Additional Information
      • Your organization’s contribution(s) toward the project
      • Other funding sources available for the project
      • Sources of funding for recurrent operating expenses
      • Feasibility report
      • Proposed form of acknowledgement for funds granted
    • Capital Projects (if applicable)
      • Surface area of construction site
      • Status of land allotment or land use conversion for the project
      • Detailed design specifications of the building(s), including 3-D drawings and artist renditions
      • Gross/usable floor area of the building(s)/structure(s)
      • List of furniture and equipment and estimated costs
      • At least three different quotes for contractors/suppliers for all work purchases

3. Gift Agreement:

Once the proposed project has been approved for funding, a formal Gift Agreement between the donor and recipient outlining the mutually agreed terms and conditions of the donation will be drafted and signed by both parties. The Foundation retains the right to inspect, examine, and/or audit any physical properties, assets, works-in-progress, and/or books and records pertaining to the use of donation funds by the beneficiary at any time upon notice.
